The Independent Media Council defends free speech and a free press by fighting censorship, protecting viewpoint diversity, and ensuring all voices have a fair chance to be heard.
Our new, non-profit advocacy group has a single goal: stopping the censorship and blacklisting pushed by so-called media monitors like NewsGuard, GDI and others.
We plan on advocating for free speech and against biased media monitors with:
- Government at the federal, state and local level
- Big tech, search and social media platforms
- Advertising and marketing agencies
- Schools and universities using these services to block news content
- Public companies that back and support censorship programs
IMC will work to build a broad coalition of people and organizations from all walks of life and all political parties.
As a member of the independent or conservative press, you have likely been on the receiving end of these so-called “fact checkers.”
Many conservative and other media have seen their revenues hindered or crippled by a bad rating or ranking.
Even if you’ve been one of the few to receive a good rating, you should be aware these groups can change your rating without notice, immediately cutting off significant revenues for your company.
We truly believe the pursuit of truth and the ability of citizens to freely express themselves is on the line.
As a dues-paying member, you can protect free speech and a free, independent press.
The antidote to misinformation and disinformation is more speech, not censorship.
The US Supreme Court has long abided by the Counterspeech Doctrine – that the solution to bad speech is more speech, not censorship or “enforced silence.”
We must do our part to ensure that America remains true to its free speech principles.
